A Spotlight on Driffield Wolds DFAS

Driffield Wolds was formed in 1988 and has around 100 members. We meet at 7.30 pm on the third Thursday of every month. This time enables those who work to attend.

Lectures are held at Driffield Rugby Club which has a bar, enabling members to meet for a chat and drink before and/or after the lecture.

Our lectures are varied. Next year’s include a talk on the Queen’s House at Greenwich; Modern Art; Sculpture; Cabinet Making; the Art Fund; Trompe l’Oeil and other diverse topics.

The Society also organises study days and visits – including away visits. This year we have visited the gardens at Highgrove in Gloucestershire and Kelmscott Manor, the country home of William Morris. We have also had an excellent study day visiting the churches of the Wolds and in September participated in a 3/4 day visit to Scotland, visiting Dumfries House and other interesting country houses. Next year we hope to organise visits to Tyntesfield in Somerset and possibly the Lake District as well as another study of more Wolds churches.

Each year we support a Young Arts Project of some kind. These have included helping to subsidise a mural at a special school in the town; funding towards stained glass windows in a local school; organising a musical evening at Sledmere House and sponsoring the children’s art classes at the Driffield Show.

If you have an interest in the arts, antiques, history etc please come along to one of our meetings – contact our Membership Secretary if interested (number below).

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU!
